Alan Jackson Makes History with Inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award at ACMs

In a historic moment for country music, Alan Jackson, already a legendary figure in the genre made Academy of Country Music history by becoming the first-ever recipient of the newly created Alan Jackson Lifetime Achievement Award. The award, which will bear his name moving forward, was presented during the 60th ACM Awards by none other than the evening’s host, Reba McEntire.

The new accolade honors an artist, duo, or group that has achieved national and international prominence through concert performances, philanthropy, record sales, streaming numbers, and public representation. Recipients of this award have significantly shaped the genre’s growth and left an indelible mark on fans and the industry both in the United States and abroad.

Upon receiving the award, Jackson reflected on his remarkable journey, saying, “I came to Nashville with a paper sack full of songs and a crazy dream, and all these years later, standing here receiving such an honor like this is just mind-blowing. Thank you all so much for this honor and for all the years.” His words were met with a thunderous standing ovation from the crowd.

The Academy emphasized that Jackson was chosen as the inaugural recipient in recognition of his outstanding achievements and his enduring legacy within country music. The organization praised his heartfelt lyrics, humble demeanor, devotion to songwriting, relatability, and timeless sound, all of which have preserved and celebrated the traditional yet iconic essence of the genre.

During his acceptance speech, Jackson expressed his gratitude to his family, fans, and collaborators. He acknowledged the immense support he has received throughout his career, giving special thanks to his wife Denise, whom he described as his best friend since he was 17. “She’s loved me through the good and the bad and the happy and the sad and has influenced me, given me three beautiful daughters, and helped me keep my feet on the ground all these years. I wouldn’t be here without her,” Jackson said, visibly moved.

The emotional moment was heightened when Jackson performed his iconic ballad, “Remember When,” as photos from his life played on a screen behind him. He lightened the mood with a bit of humor, joking, “A few years ago, one of my fans named their dog after me, and I thought that was something! But this is really amazing.”

Jackson’s relationship with the ACM Awards dates back to 1991 when he was named Top New Male Vocalist. Over his career, he has earned 17 competitive ACM trophies and five special awards. His career highlights include four Single of the Year wins and three Album of the Year awards, as well as being named Top Male Vocalist three times. Most recently, he was honored with the ACM Poet’s Award, recognizing his impactful songwriting.

As Jackson prepares for the final show of his Last Call: One More for the Road Tour at Milwaukee’s Fiserv Forum, his legacy continues to resonate with fans across the country. The award not only cements his place as a cornerstone of country music but also ensures that his influence will continue to be honored by future generations of artists.
