CMT reimagines their annual Music Awards show

Updated: May 12, 2021

October 23, 2020

The 2020 CMT Music Awards, like many other awards shows this year, had to completely reimagine what their show would look like in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic due to social distancing restrictions. Unlike years before, the show was not held at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena.

The show, co-hosted by Kane Brown, Sarah Hyland, and Ashley McBryde, pre-taped many of the performances which featured artists like Luke Combs and Brooks & Dunn, Jimmie Allen and Noah Cyrus, Maren Morris, Shania Twain, and more. Many artists also accepted their awards from remote locations.

Dan and Shay won Duo Video of the Year for "I Should Probably Go To Bed," Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton won Collaborative Video of the Year for "Nobody But You," and Carrie Underwood was the biggest winner of the night, taking home awards for both Female Video of the Year and Video of the Year for her song, "Drinking Alone." We can't wait to see the other creative ways awards shows adapt to create a great viewing experience for fans in similar, or different, ways than CMT.

Performances and acceptance speeches are available to view on CMT's YouTube channel.
