Darius Rucker Appears on the Today Show to Announce New Album Release Titled After Late Mother

Darius Rucker has had many reasons to celebrate in recent years, and that didn’t stop on Friday. Darius hit NBC’s Today show to honor his tenth year as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. He also earned a spectacular achievement with his song “Wagon Wheel” becoming only the fourth country song to be certified Diamond by the RIAA, meaning the song has had over 10 million units consumed. The only other country songs to do so? “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton, “Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line, and “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus. That’s some pretty special company.

Joining Today’s Craig Melvin in a riveting interview, Darius also made a huge announcement, giving fans some news that he has a new album coming in 2023. The album is titled “Carolyn’s Boy”, and he even shared the album cover – a portrait of his late mother Carolyn. In the interview, Darius exclaimed:

“I wanted to name the record “Carolyn’s Boy” because mom never got to see any of my success. She died before any of this happened, so it’s just another homage to the greatest woman I’ve ever known… Years ago, I was not really sure what my place in country music was, and I was trying to find it. Now I have found it, and I think it’s time to give that record.”

Darius later took to Instagram to further confirm the announcement and thank the Today show for having him. He got some inspiring and congratulatory comments from the likes of country stars Michael Ray, Caylee Hammack, among others.

“Thanks to the @TodayShow for hanging with me this morning and revealing the title of my new album, Carolyn’s Boy. It’s an homage to my mom, the greatest woman I’ve ever known! I can’t wait for you all to hear it next year.”

You can hear two of Darius’ current singles now, “Ol’ Church Hymn” and “Same Beer Different Problem”, which will both most certainly be a part of the highly anticipated 2023 album.
