Elizabeth Nichols Makes Cheating Sound Sweet on “Does Your Girlfriend Know We Kissed?”

There’s something especially satisfying about watching a cheater realize he’s been caught.
On her wickedly fun new single, “Does Your Girlfriend Know We Kissed?”, fast-rising country standout Elizabeth Nichols doesn’t waste a second crying over the guy who played her. She doesn’t key his truck, throw his clothes into the street or spiral over what she could have done differently. Instead, she does something much more entertaining: she makes him sweat.
And frankly, that’s what makes the song so damn lovable.
Written entirely by Nichols after discovering the man she had been kissing already had a girlfriend, “Does Your Girlfriend Know We Kissed?” turns an otherwise brutal realization into three minutes of delicious country-pop revenge. Rather than positioning herself as the heartbroken victim, Nichols flips the power dynamic almost immediately, firing question after question at the guy who apparently thought he could keep his double life tucked neatly out of sight.
Does his girlfriend know? Is he planning on telling her? Should Nichols save him the trouble?
Suddenly, he’s the uncomfortable one.
That mischievous streak is where Nichols shines brightest. There’s no desperation buried beneath the lyric and very little interest in trying to understand the guy’s behavior. She already has the information she needs. He lied. He got caught. Now she’s going to have a little fun watching him wonder just how much trouble he’s in.
She doesn’t give a shit, and that’s exactly the point.
What makes the whole thing even better is just how sweet the song sounds. Sonically, “Does Your Girlfriend Know We Kissed?” is bright, breezy and almost deceptively sugary, which makes the subject matter infinitely more entertaining. Nichols isn’t delivering these questions over some thunderous revenge anthem. She’s practically smiling her way through them, wrapping betrayal and barely veiled menace in an irresistibly charming country-pop package.
That contrast is the magic trick.
The sweeter the melody gets, the sharper the questions feel. There’s something hilariously satisfying about hearing Nichols casually torment a two-timer while the song itself feels light enough to blast with the windows down. Instead of sounding furious, she sounds amused, and somehow that feels like an even worse fate for the guy on the receiving end.
There’s a confidence to Nichols’ delivery that keeps the song from becoming another run-of-the-mill cheating anthem. Where plenty of country songs would reach for devastation or scorched-earth revenge, Nichols finds a far more playful lane. She sounds less interested in mourning the relationship than she does in tormenting the idiot who thought he had everyone fooled.
It’s cheeky. It’s sharp. And beneath all the humor, it’s surprisingly empowering.
Produced by Mike Robinson and Jackson Foote, the same team behind Nichols’ breakout “I Got a New One,” the track gives her plenty of room to flex the personality that is quickly becoming her calling card. The production is infectious without overpowering the story, allowing every raised eyebrow, sarcastic question and implied threat to land exactly where it should.
Even better, knowing Nichols wrote the song completely by herself makes its personality hit harder. There’s nothing manufactured about the premise. These are the thoughts of someone who went from wondering why a guy wouldn’t commit to suddenly discovering that commitment wasn’t exactly his problem.
As Nichols joked, finding out he had a girlfriend was almost a relief.
That attitude tells you just about everything you need to know about why “Does Your Girlfriend Know We Kissed?” works.
Nichols refuses to let some lousy guy dictate the emotional temperature of the room. Instead of wondering whether she was good enough for him, she recognizes that he was the problem, and then turns his bad behavior into one hell of a country song.

Because between the razor-sharp writing, undeniable personality and the kind of natural star power that can’t be manufactured in a studio, it increasingly feels like country music has a superstar on its hands.

It makes Elizabeth Nichols impossible to ignore.
