Eric Church Is Turning His Powerful UNC Commencement Speech Into A Book, And It Already Sounds Like A Bestseller

Back in May, the North Carolina native, country music superstar, and lifelong Tar Heels fanatic took the stage at the University of North Carolina’s commencement ceremony and delivered what many fans are calling one of the most powerful speeches in recent memory. It was thoughtful, heartfelt, deeply personal, and unmistakably Eric Church.

Rather than offering generic advice, Church used something he knows better than just about anyone else, a guitar, as a metaphor for life itself.

“When all six are in tune, the chords they make can stop a conversation cold, carry a broken person through the worst night of their life, or make a roomful of strangers feel for three minutes like they’ve known each other forever,” Church told the graduating class.

“If one is off, the whole chord unravels. Not gradually, politely. The moment you strike it, you know. I believe your life runs on this principle.”

The speech instantly resonated far beyond Chapel Hill. Fans, graduates, and even people with no connection to UNC shared clips online, praising Church’s message about balancing the things that matter most in life.

And apparently, the publishing world took notice too.

During a recent appearance on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast, Church revealed that his commencement address sparked interest from book publishers almost immediately.

“There’s been a lot. There’s been a lot of book publisher people,” Church admitted.

Honestly, that’s not surprising.

The country star also revealed a working title that already sounds tailor-made for bookstore shelves:

“It’s gonna be called The Six Strings of Your Life. It’ll be the speech, it’ll be a little more, maybe, because there’s some color. I mean, it’s really eight chapters. You have a beginning. You have six chapters and then you have an outro.”

In true Chief fashion, the concept is simple, meaningful, and rooted in the same message that made the original speech so memorable. While the commencement address served as the foundation, it sounds like the book will dive deeper into the lessons, experiences, and stories behind those six “strings” that help keep life in tune.

For fans who watched the speech and immediately wished there was more, it looks like they’re about to get exactly that.

No release date has been announced yet, but if The Six Strings of Your Life captures even half the wisdom, honesty, and perspective that Church delivered from that UNC stage, this one has all the makings of a bestseller.

Then again, would we expect anything less from Eric Church?
