Last week, BMI artists Lainey Wilson and Jelly Roll gathered with family, friends and members of the country music community to celebrate their recent run of number one hits. The record-breaking had a lot to celebrate with the platinum chart-toppers “Need a Favor” and the Grammy-nominated “Save Me,” and Wilson’s fifth consecutive No. One at Country radio, “Watermelon Moonshine.

During the celebration hosted by BMI and ASCAP and Nashville's Tin Roof, the artists opened up to All Country News and other outlets about the power of their fan favorite duet "Save Me."

The track was originally recorded as a solo and appear on Jelly's 2020 album Self Medicated. Breathing new life into the soul stirring track, vocal powerhouse Lainey Wilson was added to the track this year! To announce the one of a kind duet, Jelly surprised the crowd at this year's ACM Awards during his powerful performance. Since then the good friends have performed the song on TV and Lainey even made a few surprise appearances on Jelly's Backroad Baptism Tour this year. Lainey also brought Jelly out during her opening slot for HARDY in Nashville!

When asked how "Save Me" strengthened their friendship and pushed their artistry, Jelly got emotional. "Save Me was special to me. I don't think people fully grasp as an artist that sometimes songs mean so much to us," Jelly said of the chart topper.

"To some degree, we don't really care what it does outside of that. It's more about the actual art. I always knew Lainey would be involved, for kids like my daughter she will be there Dolly," he continued.

"I had been a fan of the song for a long time," Lainey echoed. "I knew before I had even really like officially met Jelly and got to spend some time with him, I knew that he was just my kind of people. When I heard that maybe they were interested in me, you know, doing the female part of the song, I was like man, it's cool to hear the female perspective of this."

"Speaking to our friendship, I know that me and Jelly could get so busy in the next couple of years we might not see each other a lot, but I can pick the phone up and call him. He's going to be my friend no matter what and his family is my family and vice versa," Lainey said with a smile.

It goes without saying that the impact of this song was also felt by the two friends. True trailblazers in the genre, Lainey and Jelly Roll undoubtedly will continue to make an impact for generations of fans to come. You can check out our full party recap below!
