Exclusive: Ryan & Rory Take “Beer Wants Me” Off the Rails, and Tease a Wild New Chapter

Ryan & Rory have never needed much help turning up the energy, but on their latest release, “Beer Wants Me,” the rising duo lets the good times take complete control.
Driven by roaring guitars, fiery harmonica and a hook made to be shouted with a drink in the air, the track captures that wonderfully dangerous moment when “just one” becomes an entire night. Clocking in at a lean two minutes and 52 seconds, “Beer Wants Me” wastes no time getting to the party, and according to the duo, that anything-can-happen spirit extends far beyond the studio.
One Beer, One Breakdown and One Legendary Rescue
When asked for the most Ryan & Rory example of a responsible night suddenly going off the rails, Ryan reached back to an unexpected day off in Brandon, Manitoba.
“We actually broke down in Brandon, Manitoba, on a day off,” Ryan tells All Country News. “We stopped for some thinkin’ beers to try and figure out what to do and how to make it to the next show.”
Naturally, those “thinkin’ beers” led to a plan that was anything but conventional.
“Those beers turned into us abandoning our vehicle, paying a local, shoutout Curtis, to hitch our trailer to his Explorer, packing us all in like sardines and hightailing it to the nearest rental car place to drive through the night,” Ryan recalls.
The plan may have sounded questionable, but the ending could not have been more on brand: “We MADE it to the show.”
That story perfectly captures the charm behind “Beer Wants Me.” The song is not necessarily about drinking as much as it is about the unpredictable chain reaction that begins when the work is finished, the first top gets popped and the night starts making decisions of its own.
From a Ripper to a “Super Ripper”
Although “Beer Wants Me” arrives ready for radio, its real home might be the stage. The track hits hard from its opening seconds, giving listeners virtually no time to settle in before the harmonica, guitars and percussion take over.
For Rory, recognizing a future live-show favorite happens almost instantly.
“Pretty much from the first drum hit,” he says. “If it rips, it rips.”
But the recorded version is only the starting point. Ryan & Rory view their live show as a chance to push every song further, transforming an already rowdy track into something even bigger.
“That’s the glory of arranging a live show,” Rory explains. “We can take a ripper and turn it into a super ripper. We love embellishing our tunes and adding intros, outros and audience cues that the ‘radio single’ couldn’t fit.”
That instinct is part of what makes the duo so exciting. Their music does not merely ask fans to listen, it invites them to become part of the chaos.
Curveballs Are Coming
“Beer Wants Me” also serves as an early look at the new music Ryan & Rory have coming this fall, but fans should not expect every song to stay in exactly the same lane.
“As a massive baseball fan, there will always be curveballs,” Ryan teases.
He describes the duo’s upcoming material as “a whole pool,” with room for both carefree fun and something more emotionally substantial.
“There’s a shallow end, a deep end and everything in between,” he says. “Ultimately, we’re high-energy through and through, so look out!”
That balance may prove important to Ryan & Rory’s next chapter. “Beer Wants Me” shows how naturally they can deliver a party anthem, but their promise of a deeper end suggests there is more beneath the surface than cold drinks and loud guitars.
Still, when the work is done, Rory has no interest in wasting a perfectly good night, or a perfectly good metaphor.
“I tend to go off the rails when the work’s done,” he admits. “Not taking advantage of a night out is like leaving a fully gassed-up ’60s muscle car in the garage instead of taking it for a joyride and blowing the transmission.”
With “Beer Wants Me,” Ryan & Rory are not leaving anything in the garage. They are hitting the gas, turning up the volume and inviting fans along for whatever happens next.
