According to the press release, McBryde took to the stage alongside Chancellor Todd Shields, who acknowledged her determination and contributions to American music. Shields praised her as a testament to the opportunities higher education can provide and an inspiration for future Arkansas State University alumni.

In her heartfelt speech, McBryde reflected on her journey from a broke, guitar-playing, songwriting chick performing in bars to becoming a Grammy-winning songwriter and Grand Ole Opry member. She shared how her time at Arkansas State shaped her passion for music education and performing. Despite pursuing a less traditional path in music education, McBryde has remained deeply connected to the field, often working alongside educators who inspire future musicians.

“I have dedicated my life to the pursuit of and the magic of making music, and hopefully I will inspire others to do so,” McBryde shared. She expressed gratitude for the mentors who shaped her journey, mentioning influential figures like Greg and Hope Bruner, Robin Dauer, Ed Alexander, Doctor Ken Carroll, and Doctor Tom O’Connor.

With characteristic wit and humility, McBryde addressed the honor bestowed upon her, acknowledging that being called “Doctor” is a recognition of hard work and dedication. “This stage became my classroom,” she said, emphasizing how each performance from late-night TV shows to award ceremonies felt like a rigorous test in her musical journey.

Looking ahead, fans can catch Dr. Ashley McBryde at a series of upcoming performances, including Opry 100 Honors: Loretta Lynn on May 13, CMA Fest at Nissan Stadium, Country Thunder Wisconsin and Alberta, and a string of headlining dates. She will also join Little Big Town for shows in West Palm Beach, FL, and Orange Beach, AL, in August.
