It’s been a long road from the cotton fields of northeast Louisiana to the top of country music’s biggest stages, and now Lainey Wilson’s story is on full display at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Opening July 18, Lainey Wilson: Tough as Nails is a deeply personal, career-spanning exhibit that explores the roots, rise, and resilience of one of country music’s most dynamic voices.

From the moment she burst onto the scene with her unmistakable blend of throwback twang and fresh attitude, a sound she coined “bell bottom country”, Wilson has been unapologetically herself. Equal parts down-home grit and freewheeling dreamer, she’s brought a refreshing authenticity to the genre. That blend of toughness and tenderness is what makes this exhibit not just a celebration of Wilson’s success, but a testament to the journey behind it.
The timing couldn’t be more fitting. In just a few short years, Wilson has racked up a slew of accolades, including multiple CMA and ACM Awards, chart-topping hits like “Things a Man Oughta Know” and “Heart Like a Truck,” and a pivotal role on Yellowstone. But long before the accolades, there was a teenage girl in Baskin, Louisiana, scribbling dreams in a notebook.
One of the most touching items in the exhibit is a well-worn journal from a then-sixteen-year-old Wilson, where she wrote, “My dream is to become a country singer/songwriter. I know I can do it.” That journal is now displayed alongside other deeply personal artifacts that trace her path from small-town hopeful to national headliner.

Fans can also see the Ibanez Gio electric guitar her father gave her at age eleven, the first instrument she ever called her own, and the cheerleading uniform she wore at Franklin Academy, a sweet reminder of her small-town roots. And for those who have followed her red carpet reign, the stunning hat, jumpsuit, and necklace she wore at the 2023 CMA Awards are on display in full glamor.

To kick off the exhibit’s opening weekend, the Museum will host a special songwriter round on Saturday, July 19, from noon to 1:00 PM in the Ford Theater, featuring Lainey’s co-writers Jon Decious and Aaron Raitiere, the creatives behind some of her most beloved songs.
With Tough as Nails, the Country Music Hall of Fame has curated more than just a walk through Lainey Wilson’s closet or career milestones. It’s a full-circle story of determination, artistry, and staying true to your roots. For a woman who’s always sung about where she’s from and where she’s going, this exhibit is a well-earned spotlight on a star still blazing her trail.
