There’s something special about the places that shape us—and for award-winning country artist Gary Pratt, that place just so happens to be a red barn.
Today, Pratt officially kicks off a brand-new chapter in his musical journey with the release of his newest single, “Red Barn,” a high-octane, nostalgia-soaked anthem that combines down-home charm with a playful wink and a whole lot of heart. Out everywhere Friday, April 25, “Red Barn” marks the first taste of Pratt’s upcoming project, helmed by powerhouse producer Adam Ernst and trusted engineer Douglas Kasper of Tonic Studios.
For Pratt, who wasn’t expecting to return to the studio so soon after the critical success of his last album Something Worth Remembering, the call to create again came unexpectedly—but with just the right spark.
“I had no idea what songs I was even going to record. I was a nervous wreck,” Pratt admits. “But I didn’t want to lose the opportunity to work with Adam again.” What followed was a full year of committed collaboration, with Ernst flying in from Nashville monthly and Kasper offering his signature touch behind the console. “Together, we’ve created something really special.”
At the center of that effort stands “Red Barn,” a flirty, foot-stomping track penned by Nashville hitmaker Jason Patrick Matthews (of Billy Currington’s “Must Be Doin’ Somethin’ Right” fame). The song strikes a unique chord by merging modern production with old-school storytelling, painting a vivid picture of small-town romance and country life—with a Silverado parked out front and a spark igniting inside.
“It reminded me of the red barn on my Great Grandfather’s farm,” Pratt reflects. “The memories, the storytelling, even the Silverado mention—it all hit home. And get this—my duet partner Kate Szallar and her husband actually have a red barn and a Silverado. It just felt meant to be.”
Indeed, “Red Barn” feels like more than just a song—it’s a return to the roots that made Pratt who he is, both as an artist and as a person. With its galloping rhythm, irresistible chorus, and a knowing twinkle in its eye, the track is a celebration of youth, memory, and the places we never truly leave behind.
In a fun twist, choreographer Karen Zima is also creating a custom line dance for the single, which will be taught at upcoming live shows—offering fans another reason to kick up some dust.
A proud son of Slickville, Pennsylvania, Gary Pratt has made a name for himself by bridging generations of country fans with music that’s as heartfelt as it is high-energy. From love and loss to small-town pride, he writes and sings from the heart—and “Red Barn” is no exception. If this is just the beginning of what’s to come, fans might want to saddle up.
