All Country news got to sit down with Old Dominion frontman Matt Ramsey to ask the questions that their fans have to have answers to! You will want to keep reading to see if your question was answered!
WILL THERE EVER BE AN OLD DOMINION LIVE ALBUM?
Matt - "We talk about that all the time. We record every single show. We have just a bank of everything. I think that's something that we would love to do at some point is go through all of that and at least put it somewhere for people to hear. We pride ourselves on our live shows and sometimes we do different special things. Like I said, it's all recorded and banked, so I would imagine that's a possibility at some point."
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO HAVE YOUR FIRST ALBUM CUT WITH A FEMALE CO-WRITER?
Matt - You know, it feels great. It's unfortunate that it's taken this long that's just by luck of the draw. We've known Jesse Joe for a really long time and written tons and tons of songs with her. She's always been one of those people that it's kind of escaped me how on earth some of the songs that we've written haven't been cut by us or other people yet, you know? It feels really good to finally have her included.
A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE SEEN YOU OUT ON THE ROAD THIS YEAR HAVE NOTICED THE NEW ARRANGEMENT FOR "WRITTEN IN THE SAND" WHOSE IDEA WAS THAT?
Matt- That was actually my idea. When we started to put this tour together, um, that song has always been a hit live. I wanted to find moments where we could showcase our musicianship a little bit more, rather than just play the like three minute album version of the song. This one seemed to lend itself to allow us to show off, you know, ourselves as a band.
ONE OF OUR FAVORITE PARTS OF YOUR LIVE SHOW IS THE ACOUSTIC SONGWRITING SECTION. WHY IS THAT SUCH AN IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR SHOW?
Matt - I think it is an interesting way for us to sort of humbly brag a little bit. <laugh> We moved to Nashville to be songwriters and that was such an important thing for us. It wasn't in the plans to be a band. We had this amazing success that's hard enough as songwriters. Now that we are a band, it is important for us to show our fans what we were able to do. Also, it's a unique way to express our gratitude for them listening to the music that we were creating before they ever even realized that it was us.
FANS ARE WONDERING WHERE YOUR INFAMOUS "MEOW MIX" WENT? ARE YOU PLANNING TO RELEASE ANY MORE ANIMAL VERSIONS?
Matt- It's had it's time. It has worn itself out. <laugh> Sometimes we slip a few "meows" in at shows.
WHAT IS THE WEIRDEST "HOTEL KEY" THAT HAS BEEN THROWN ON STAGE?
Matt - Our last show, someone handed me a Walmart gift card, that was used. Another time a girl handed me her drivers license. I had no idea and slipped it in my pocket and continued with the show. Then after the show, somebody from the crew came up and said, "Hey, do you still have that key? It was actually her driver's license." Luckily I didn't toss it. Sometimes I just tossed them out into the crowd, luckily I still had it!
A LOT OF FANS HAVE NOTICED THAT YOU HAVE ADDED IN THE SUMMER OF 69 LYRIC INTO SONGS FOR ANOTHER TIME.
Matt- We had heard that like somewhere. I feel like a fan actually one time said that and we were like, oh thats cool. But the song lives on and just keeps growing.
FANS LOVE YOUR OUTFITS! WHERE DO YOU KEEP YOUR FUN WARDROBE WHILE ON THE ROAD?
Matt - We do have a stylist that helps for things like award shows and video shoots and photo shoots and stuff like that. She brings tons and tons of options and I stock up for tour. I just kind of like do a mad sweep and <laugh>.
But we do travel with a wardrobe case. You can probably can find pictures somewhere, but we picked up our wardrobe cases from Little Big Town. All of our cases still have their names on them. My case says Karen. I think it's Jeff's case that says Kimberly. I think Trevor has Jimmy. We had a crew member that was getting ready to wash their names off and we said, no, no, no, no, no. Keep their names on.
WHAT ARE YOU GUYS MOST EXCITED FOR THIS YEAR?
Matt- Oh man. You know, this tour we only had like five shows, but it's been more magical than I could have ever imagined. I'm just so excited to get out there and play these shows because we worked really hard, harder than we ever have on crafting a great show. When I see these videos and pictures of us and the size of the room that we're playing and the energy that's in the room, I've never been able to feel that before. I'm just so energized and excited to see this tour through to the end.
