Co-written by Cardarelli alongside Patrick Murphy and Tina Parol, and produced by Daniel Dennis, “I’ll Get Over You”is a powerful ballad that reflects the emotional struggle of moving on after a heartbreak. With a balance of clever lyricism and deep emotional resonance, the song captures that seemingly impossible feeling of healing after love is lost.
The chorus delivers a memorable punch with its vivid imagery:
“When the sun sets in the East, and goes around the moon,
When the world don’t turn, and the summer sky ain’t blue,
When the stars don’t glow and Hell’s ice cold and Dolly’s out of tune,
That’s when I’ll get over you.”
Cardarelli’s silky, effortless vocals glide through the heartfelt verses, bringing a tender vulnerability that feels deeply personal and relatable. The lyrics’ irony and wit create a poignant contrast, capturing the way heartbreak can make even the impossible seem plausible. It’s this emotional depth that gives the song its universal appeal.
When Vince Gill joins in on the chorus, his signature voice blends seamlessly with Cardarelli’s, adding layers of warmth and depth to the track. The pairing of their voices elevates the song, turning a poignant ballad into a duet that feels timeless.
“We’ve all known that feeling when your heart is hurting and you’re trying desperately to get over someone, but there’s no end in sight,” says Cardarelli. “We wanted to intertwine the irony and satire of those feelings within the lyrics—knowing these things will never actually happen, and that’s how your heart feels when you’re going through it. It was a true honor to have Vince lend his amazing voice to the song, which makes it that much more special.”
Accompanied by a soft, breezy music video that mirrors the emotional journey of the song, “I’ll Get Over You” is more than just another breakup ballad—it’s a career-defining moment for Cardarelli. The video enhances the song's emotional core, with a gentle aesthetic that complements her vocals and storytelling, adding yet another layer of sincerity.
"I’m an avid golfer," Jillian shared with All Country News. "That's actually how I met Vince Gill, on the golf course. We have a mutual friend who does a lot for charity golf in middle Tennessee, so we actually got to know each other through him and we've played golf together quite a few times, which allowed a friendship to form through our passion for golf. Then at a charity concert event at a golf tournament, we were able to play music together. So when I recorded this song, I thought of Vince immediately and knew he would sound amazing on it, and I was right. Vince is pure magic on this track."
Cardarelli’s collaboration with Vince Gill, combined with her skillful songwriting and vocal prowess, positions “I’ll Get Over You” as a standout track in today’s country landscape. It’s a song that blends contemporary country with nostalgic, traditional elements, making it resonate with a wide audience and further solidifying her rising star status in Nashville.
If you haven’t yet heard Jillian Cardarelli’s “I’ll Get Over You,” now’s the perfect time to immerse yourself in this heartfelt, bittersweet anthem—an emotional reminder of the heart’s resilience, even when moving on feels impossible.
Additionally this week, Cardarelli teamed up with Nashville Songwriter Hall of Fame inductee and hitmaker Marcus Hummon, along with talented songwriters Jake Rose and Grant Vogel, to share the heartfelt stories behind their songs at the DOGtober Writers Round held at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville. The event, benefitting the PEDIGREE Foundation’s disaster relief efforts for animal shelters and rescues impacted by Hurricane Helene, raised over $15,300, making a meaningful impact on the lives of animals in need.
