Josh Ross and Akon Unite for a Genre-Bending Summer Banger in “Drunk Right Now (Na Na Na)”

In a year already bursting with unexpected country collaborations, one pairing has managed to catch fire with fans across genres: Josh Ross and Akon. The Canadian country rocker and the global R&B hitmaker have officially dropped the music video for their genre-blending track “Drunk Right Now (Na Na Na),” and it is every bit the party anthem fans didn’t know they needed.

Released via MCA Nashville, Mercury Nashville, and Universal Music Canada, the track has been gaining serious momentum since it hit streaming platforms last month. Now, the music video, produced by COMING OF AGE and directed by Mattias Russo-Larsson and Lewis Atallah, adds a vivid, energetic visual that’s poised to push the song’s viral appeal even further.

With millions of streams already under its belt and dance trends buzzing across TikTok, “Drunk Right Now” taps into a sense of carefree chaos that feels tailor-made for summer. The video matches that mood perfectly, offering a blur of neon lights, no-regrets revelry, and genre-defying swagger that feels as natural as it is surprising.

For Ross, the collaboration is more than just a catchy summer single, it’s a full-circle moment rooted in childhood memories. “Akon’s music was always a huge part of my life growing up,” Ross shared. “Having two older siblings, his songs were always playing his sound, his hooks, everything about it just stuck with me before I even knew what the words meant. I’ve always been a fan.”

What started as a fun studio experiment Ross reimagining Akon’s iconic “Right Now (Na Na Na)” turned into something more when the country artist began using it as his walk-on song at live shows. “The crowd went nuts,” Ross said. “It turned into this wild country party anthem.” But the true magic happened when Ross sent the track to Akon himself. “I didn’t expect anything… and he actually loved it,” Ross recalled. “He said he wanted to jump on it, and suddenly it turned into a real collab.”

The result is a seamless blend of Akon’s unmistakable melodic flair and Ross’s gritty country-rock edge. “Drunk Right Now (Na Na Na)” blurs the lines between genres in the best way, offering a party-ready track that’s just as likely to be heard at a tailgate as it is in a nightclub.

Ross calls it a summer party anthem and it’s hard to argue with that. Whether you’re a lifelong Akon fan, a country music devotee, or just someone who likes their drinks cold and their music loud, “Drunk Right Now” delivers the vibe. And with the new video giving fans even more to latch onto, one thing is clear: this is a crossover moment worth getting a little drunk on.
