Today the decorated country music star celebrates another milestone as her fan favorite Watermelon Moonshine breaks into the top 10 on country radio!
The tender track is off her album Bell Bottom Country is no.9 at Country radio this week. Jumping three spots, this makes the track her fastest growing single and the fastest growing single by a solo female in 5 years, the last being “Cry Pretty” by Carrie Underwood in 2018.
Penned by Wilson and her co-writers, Josh Kear and Jordan Schmidt, the wistful track invites fans to enter the nostalgic memories of their first love.
It was right after senior year
Just before the summer disappeared
We went a-ridin’ them old farm ruts
Hangin’ out on the gate of his truck
We threw a blanket ‘neath the sunset
Bein’ brave as 18 gets
We gave each other more than our hearts
With the help of a mason jar
“During this busy season of life that I’m in, I want to write about things that make me feel grounded,” she says. “You can’t help but listen to ‘Watermelon Moonshine’ and think about that one person you were madly in love with," Lainey told American Songwriter about the smash hit!
Last week Lainey was also nominated for an impressive eight People's Choice Country Awards including her Bell Bottom Country Album. You can hear Watermelon Moonshine on tour this fall as Lainey joins buddy HARDY on his the mockingbird & THE CROW Fall Tour kicking off August 31st in Knoxville, Tennessee.
