Kacey Musgraves Delivers Show-Stopping ACL Headlining Performance
The iconic Austin City Limits kicked off last weekend, of course featuring country superstar Kacey Musgraves in the lineup. Set to reprise her headlining performance during the festival's second weekend, Musgraves has made her mark on one of the nation's biggest stages.
Her setlist incorporated songs from the bestselling Golden Hour, as well as the newer star-crossed, two of the best and most timeless works in modern country music. Musgraves' unique style blends elements of classic country, mainstream pop, EDM, and synth. These characteristics have cemented her status as a trailblazer and an innovative force to be reckoned with - in both the genre of country and the music industry as a whole.
Opening with "star-crossed," Musgraves immediately captivated the eager festivalgoers. Her infectious joy to play for such an enthusiastic crowd shined through, as well as her natural ability to connect with them. She stunned with the fan-favorite "cherry blossom" and the powerful "breadwinner," along with several other tracks from the no-skip star-crossed. In just one of our favorite moments of her set, Musgraves commented under a bright full moon, "It's a beautiful night. Perfect to hear some super depressing songs."
She also brought some fun 70's vibes to her set, covering Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" after singing her 2013 hit "Merry Go Round." This served as a true highlight of ACL, bringing crowds of all ages to their feet. We need Musgraves to release a studio version of this cover, like, yesterday.
Additionally, the lucky audience got to witness the live debut of "keep lookin' up," a moving standout track from star-crossed. Of course, the superstar didn't leave out the iconic "Space Cowboy" from her set, a mainstream crossover which Musgraves has become known for. She closed her set with the sensational "Slow Burn."
We truly wish we could've attended ACL just to watch Musgraves bring the house down. However, downloading videos of her set to our "camera roll" (see what we did there) and binge-watching them will have to suffice. Once again, Musgraves has made history with her charismatic stage presence, impeccable discography, and unmatched voice.
