Kenny Chesney Honors His Dog Ruby In "Da Ruba Girl"
Five days ago, Kenny Chesney's beloved pitbull lost her life to cancer. Ruby, affectionately known as "Da Ruba Girl," held a special place in the singer's heart. Every morning, she would bond with him by adorably licking his face. She had a protective soul, guarding him from everything including squirrels. Chesney described her loss as "a hole there are no words for."
Her legacy lives on, however, in Chesney's newest single inspired by her. All proceeds from the song benefit Stray Rescue of St. Louis, a no-kill animal shelter that rescues injured and abandoned dogs and cats. "Ruby was everything good, and in her memory, this is her way of continuing to give and bring love where it's most needed," reflected Chesney on Instagram.
Against a simple ukulele track, Chesney sings sentimental, vivid lyrics honoring his late best friend. The singer celebrates Ruby's personality, as well as his irreplaceable connection with her. It's impossible to listen without sobbing, especially for those who can relate to losing a pet.
