Lainey Wilson Drops "New Friends," Her Second Yellowstone Song

Alright y’all, Lainey Wilson has done it again. The star seems to be rolling out deluxe tracks of her critically acclaimed sophomore album, Bell Bottom Country, through the Yellowstone soundtrack. Wilson joined the cast of this hit western drama for its highly-anticipated fifth season, playing the character Abby. As the queen takes on her first ever acting role, of course she incorporates country music!

Abby’s storylines highly mimic Wilson’s real-life experiences, as an up-and-coming singer from a small farming community. She has some romantic scenes with Ryan (played by Ian Bohen), and often performs at bars. Last week’s episode featured “Smell Like Smoke,” which has quickly risen on the country charts over this past week. Yesterday’s episode included the special premiere of “New Friends.” Both the deluxe tracks reflect Wilson’s own musical style, covering everyday aspects of the small-town lifestyle and embracing her signature “country with a flare.”

“New Friends” is less forthcoming than “Smell Like Smoke,” but still highlights Wilson’s vivid and relatable songwriting. “I've been waiting on the sunshinе, listening to the rain / Staring out the window likе the view is gonna change,” she sings of moving on after a breakup. “I might sound crazy but you know I've always been,” Wilson continues. This poignant line summarizes Wilson’s personality - as well as many of ours - in a nutshell. The reigning CMA New Artist and Female Vocalist of the year keeps dropping anthem after anthem.

Will the upcoming episode contain a first listen of yet another Lainey Wilson song? Tune in to find out! Yellowstone airs new episodes every Sunday at 8PM EST. We can’t wait for more of the Duttons and Abby. Watching the Paramount show’s action-packed Season 5 is always the highlight of our week!
