LISTEN! Ryan and Rory Revive a Lost Classic with Jamey Johnson on “Together Again”

Some country songs are written for the charts. Others are written for the ages. Ryan and Rory’s new release, “Together Again,” featuring Jamey Johnson, falls firmly into the latter. Out now via BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville, the song is more than just a new single, it’s the resurrection of a long-lost country gem, steeped in legacy, timing, and a rare kind of magic that only Nashville can conjure.

“Together Again” has been waiting decades for its moment. Originally written by hit songwriter Keith Follesé (Ryan’s father), country outlaw Jamey Johnson, and radio icon Gerry House, the song was once in consideration for Alan Jackson before quietly drifting into the archives. But earlier this year, Sony Music Publishing’s Tom Luteran casually asked, “Whatever happened to that song?” Within 48 hours, it was back in motion.

What followed was a whirlwind. Johnson quickly agreed to revisit the track, telling Follesé, “I’ll do anything for your boy.” The song was recorded at Ocean Way Studios in Nashville in January 2024, with the legendary Dann Huff behind the board—marking the first time Huff and Johnson have ever worked together. The collaboration feels like lightning in a bottle.

The result is a masterclass in country storytelling. The track builds on a traditional foundation with modern polish, led by Ryan and Rory’s effortlessly smooth harmonies. Their performance is grounded yet soaring, giving the song a cinematic quality without ever overpowering the lyric. Johnson’s unmistakable voice adds gravitas, and Huff’s production wraps the entire piece in golden-hour warmth.

“They say Nashville is a storyteller town and this one hits close to home,” says Ryan. Rory echoes the sentiment: “It’s about legacy, timing, and how a song can come full circle when the time is right.”

For Ryan, the story is especially personal. He first heard “Together Again” as a teenager, played at the family kitchen table by his father and Johnson. It’s a memory that stuck, and now, years later, he’s part of bringing that song to life for the world to hear. That sense of full-circle storytelling is palpable in every note.

The single also marks a symbolic passing of the torch. Johnson, a standard-bearer of traditional country, joins forces with a duo carving out their space with reverence and originality. Ryan and Rory have already shown their range with fan-favorite tracks like “Truck Stop,” “What’s Mine Is Yours,” and the rowdy “Pour Decisions.” But “Together Again” is a different kind of moment proof that they can deliver not just energy, but emotional weight.

Their blend of heartfelt vocals, refined production, and rootsy edge is quickly becoming their signature. As Jamey Johnson adds his voice to the mix, the message is clear: Ryan and Rory are not just the future of country music they're students of its past, ready to carry the tradition forward.

Johnson, who’s also on the bill that night, will he be joining them on stage? We’ll have to wait and see for what could be a performance nearly two decades in the making.

Country music is built on stories like these, unfolding slowly, passed down like heirlooms, and sung when the moment finally feels right. With “Together Again,” Ryan and Rory have unearthed a treasure and given it the future it always deserved. They are the duo to watch, not because they’re chasing trends, but because they’re honoring the genre’s deepest truths.
