Miranda Lambert’s 'Crisco' Throws Open the Doors to a Glitter-Filled, Texas-Sized Disco

Miranda Lambert has nothing to prove and a dance floor to fill.

On Crisco, released October 2, the country powerhouse loosens up, turns up the shimmer and lets her personality do the heavy lifting. There is no grand reinvention here. Lambert is simply throwing open the doors to a glitter-filled, Texas-sized disco, and bringing her boots, bite and storytelling instincts along for the party.

The result is fun, flirty and unmistakably Miranda. Her familiar attitude gives the album its backbone, even as she explores textures that leave more room for movement and play. The pleasure comes from hearing an artist so firmly established in her own voice enjoy what else that voice can do.

“Snakeskin Boots,” featuring Ella Langley, is an immediate highlight. Its Western flavor grounds the album’s more sparkling ambitions, putting some dust beneath the glitter. The pairing also makes sense beyond the marquee names: this is territory where personality matters, and the song gives Lambert’s cowgirl spirit a fitting place to strut.

“Cowgirl Curtsy” delivers the tongue-in-cheek attitude that has long made Lambert such a compelling presence. Her humor has teeth. That ability to give a song a wink without sanding down its edges remains one of her greatest strengths, and here it keeps the album’s lighter mood from becoming weightless. Lambert can have fun and still make every word feel like it belongs to a woman with a story.

Then there is “To Everything,” where the disco influence moves squarely into the spotlight. It is a standout for the way it embraces the record’s sense of release. The different textures feel like an invitation to loosen your grip, with Lambert sounding unusually light and airy while retaining the force of her personality.

That balance is Crisco’s strongest asset. The brighter surroundings give her room to stretch, but the storyteller remains the center of attention. The attitude, wit and confidence hold the songs together; the shimmer gives them somewhere new to go.

Lambert has built a career on making strength sound complicated, angry, wounded, funny, defiant. Here, she makes room for another expression of it: pleasure. There is confidence in allowing a record to feel this playful without constantly announcing its seriousness.

Crisco succeeds because Lambert sounds comfortable enough to let loose. She still has the sharp tongue and the badass storytelling instincts. This time, she also has her eye on the dance floor.

And she knows exactly how to work the room.
