Opry alum and seven-time award winner Paige King Johnson is leaning into her country roots and her cowgirl grit with her brand-new single, “Cowboys Ride Away." Co-written with Pete Sallis, the track is a steel-and-fiddle-laced ballad that rides the line between heartbreak and hard truth, offering a stoic reflection on how different people bear their pain. “Preachers hit their knees, and cowboys ride away,” she sings, a lyric that cuts to the bone with quiet wisdom.

With Johnson’s crystal-clear vocals and traditional instrumentation, “Cowboys Ride Away” feels both timeless and refreshingly grounded. It’s the kind of song that reminds you why the genre endures: not because it sugarcoats emotion, but because it tells the truth simply and beautifully.
“I grew up as a cowgirl back in North Carolina, riding horses, showing lambs, and just being a farm kid." Paige shared of the song. "That meant I also grew up watching all the best Western movies where the cowboy always rode away in the end. Pete (Sallis) brought this title into a write one day, and I immediately started envisioning all those old westerns again. And before we knew it, we had finished this whole song!”
That cinematic inspiration shows. The track plays like a closing scene in a classic Western, the sun setting behind a lone rider, pain tucked just beneath the brim of a hat. The hook lands not with flash, but with feeling. It’s a line that says everything about resilience and release in just seven words.
And Johnson’s star continues to rise. This fall, she’s been named Texas Roadhouse’s Artist of the Month for November 2025, and she’s stepping into a new partnership with Old Gringo Boot Company for their upcoming Rhythm and Roots series, a fitting collaboration for an artist who embodies both rhythm and roots in equal measure.
“Cowboys Ride Away” isn’t just another heartbreak song, it’s a testament to endurance, to keeping your chin up and your boots dusty when life gets rough. It’s the sound of a true storyteller carrying the spirit of classic country into the modern day.
Paige King Johnson doesn’t just sing country music, she lives it. And in “Cowboys Ride Away,” she proves that sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is tip your hat, take the reins, and ride toward whatever comes next.
