You never know what song may go all the way up the charts. This week Thomas Rhett and Morgan Wallen's humble song takes the top spot on the Billboard Country Airplay chart with "Mamaw's House."
“For me, each No. 1 is incredibly special, but to have 20 on the Billboard chart is really mind-blowing,” Rhett told Billboard. “It means that fans are connecting with the music we make, and that is a feeling that never goes old. It means the world to me.”
Thomas Rhett previously opened up about the duet with Morgan Wallen. The tender track is an ode to the comforts and memories made at grandma's home.
"We wrote this song over zoom a few years ago. Really glad it’s finally out for y’all to hear. Now go call your grandmothers! #mamawshouse#20numberones," Thomas said on social media.
In a recent interview on the Bobby Bones show, Thomas gave listeners a peek inside the inception of the new song that was written in 2020 via Zoom. Bobby asked Thomas if he and the other songwriters on the track Chase McGill, Matt Dragstrem and Morgan chatted about what they called their grandmas.
"We were writing a whole different song," Thomas says. "And then he (Morgan) got a call from his grandmother, and that is what you hear in the opening of the song. And he called her Mamaw. Then he got back to the computer we were writing on via Zoom. This was back in 2020. I told Morgan man. I didn't know you had a Mamaw, then he said yeah she lives in Knoxville. I then said wow, I got a a Mamaw too and she lives in Knoxville. All The sudden it kinda clicked."
Thomas went on to touch why it took so long so the song to come out saying that it just didn't feel right and that he had already recorded it after his "Country Again Side A" had dropped. After drifting in "no mans land" for a bit Morgan played at a hunting camp for their mutual friends and the rest is history!
Needless to say, you never know where inspiration may strike.
