For decades the Make - A - Wish has been on a mission to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. Well little Cooper's wish was to sing with the CMA winner and global superstar! Diagnosed with leukemia at the age of three, now at the age of 8 Cooper is cancer free and wanted to celebrate with his favorite singer.

Wearing his signature Columbia fishing shirt Combs addressed the sold out crowd.

“He came all the way here, just beat cancer, so he could sign his favorite song with me. Cooper, how you doing? you hanging in there," Combs said to Cooper who seemed a tad overwhelmed.

"So, what we’re gonna do Cooper, is we’re gonna sing the chorus of ‘Fast Car’ one time, and all these beautiful people, who are so happy that you’re cancer free, they’re gonna sing ‘Fast Car’ with us. And hey, they probably aren’t gonna be able to hear us anyways ‘cuz they’re gonna be singing so loud. I’m gonna help you.” And the rest was pure MAGIC!

It is so heartwarming to see Luke's take on the Tracy Chapman classic connecting with the next generation.

“Oh man, ‘Fast Car’ has surprised me more than you can imagine. Tracy Chapman wrote this perfect song that that I first heard with my dad and it has stayed with me since,” Combs told Billboard exclusively last week.

Luke first posted the cover to his YouTube page during the 2020 pandemic and fans were immediately impressed! For years fans have been speculating that the 1988 hit would be on the record as he has been playing the hit live at a string of his current shows!

“I have played it in my live show now for six-plus years and everyone — I mean everyone — across all these stadiums relates to this song and sings along. That’s the gift of a supernatural song writer. The success of my cover is unreal and I think it’s so cool that Tracy is getting recognized and has reached new milestones. I love that she is out there feeling all the love and that she gave me a shout-out! Thank you, Tracy!”

Combs’ version of Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car apperaed on his latest album Gettin' Old. (which originally hit No. 6 on the Hot 100 in August 1988) Recently jumped to to a new No. 2 Hot 100 high, from No. 3, with 51.3 million in radio reach (up 21%), 21.2 million streams (up 4%) and 10,000 sold (down 3%) – as it rises 2-1 on Digital Song Sales, marking Combs’ third leader on the list.

Needless to say Luke continues to make his mark as a fans first kinda guy!
