Brandon Lake + Lainey Wilson + HARDY?! Inside His Country Music Tease

Brandon Lake has always made music that feels bigger than a genre. Now, it sounds like he’s ready to test just how wide his wings can stretch.

In a new Instagram post that sent both worship fans and country diehards into a frenzy, the Grammy-winning Christian artist teased what looks very much like a full-fledged move into country music. The short video feels less like a promo clip and more like a cinematic journal entry of a project that will be something big. Over it all, Lake drops the kind of line that changes everything: during a five-day writers retreat, he and his collaborators wrote 43 songs.

Forty-three.

It’s the kind of number that suggests this isn’t a side quest. It’s a mission.

Lake, best known for faith-forward anthems like “Gratitude” and “Praise You Anywhere,” has been inching toward the country lane for a while now. His voice, gritty, soulful, and unpolished in the best way, has always felt at home in the same emotional space as rootsy Americana and modern country. And his recent collaborations have only made that crossover feel inevitable.

Lake most recently teamed up with Cody Johnson for “When A Cowboy Prays,” a reverent, dust-on-your-boots ballad that stitched faith and frontier together in a way that felt both natural and deeply moving. Then of course there is “Hard Fought Hallelujah” with Jelly Roll, a gut-punch of a song that lived right at the intersection of redemption, struggle, and praise. Two collaborations. Two major country names. Two songs that didn’t just flirt with the genre, they leaned all the way in.

Now, this new retreat footage makes it official: Brandon Lake isn’t just visiting country music. He’s unpacking his bags.

Even more intriguing is the guest list. The retreat reportedly included Lainey Wilson, Thomas Rhett, HARDY, Bailey Zimmerman, and Dan + Shay, among others, an all-star lineup that spans gritty outlaw energy, radio-friendly pop-country polish, and modern arena anthems. It’s a creative melting pot that hints at a project with real range: songs that could just as easily live on Christian radio as they could crack open a country playlist or headline a festival set.

No official project title. No release date. No tracklist. Not even a formal announcement.

And yet, it already feels like something is coming.

Lake’s caption didn’t spell it out, but the tone said plenty: gratitude, excitement, and the unmistakable buzz of an artist standing at the edge of a new chapter. For a musician who’s built a career on honesty, vulnerability, and spiritual depth, a turn toward country doesn’t feel like a pivot, it feels like an evolution.

Country music, after all, has always had room for testimony. From old-school gospel roots to modern redemption arcs, faith has never been far from the genre’s storytelling core. What Brandon Lake brings is a fresh voice that knows how to write songs that feel like prayers and sing like confessionals.

So while nothing has been formally announced yet, the signs are all there. The collaborators. The song count. The recent duets. The cinematic tease. The sense of something bigger quietly taking shape behind the scenes.

If this really is the start of Brandon Lake’s country era, consider us officially on board.

Because 43 songs, a cabin full of hitmakers, and a voice built for back-road anthems? That’s not just a tease.

That’s a promise.
