Cody Johnson Saddles Up for Historic Headlining Spot at 2026 RODEOHOUSTON®

Hold onto your hats, country fans, RODEOHOUSTON® just dropped a major announcement that’s already got boots stomping in excitement. According to the press release, multi-platinum Texas native Cody Johnson will be closing out the 94th Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ with a full-length, concert-only performance on Sunday, March 22, 2026.

That’s right, Cody Johnson is returning to the star stage not just as a performer, but as the 21st star entertainer in rodeo history, making him the second artist ever (following George Strait’s unforgettable 2022 performance) to receive a standalone concert slot at the iconic event.

“Over the years, Cody has become a part of our beloved tradition – from captivating thousands year-after-year to recording RODEOHOUSTON’s official brand anthem,” said Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo president and CEO, Chris Boleman. “We are thrilled he is just as honored as we are to return in 2026.”

If there’s anyone fit for the job, it’s CoJo. With a loyal following and a long-standing history with the event—performing five times from 2017 through 2023—Johnson has cemented himself as a crowd favorite. Who could forget his 2019 anthem “Welcome to the Show,” the official theme of RODEOHOUSTON, or the electric energy of his 2023 set, which drew over 73,000 fans?

More recently, the country powerhouse made a surprise appearance during Jelly Roll’s 2024 performance, proving that when it comes to the Rodeo, Johnson never really leaves, he just waits for the right time to gallop back into the spotlight.

Fresh off an impressive award season, Johnson’s stock is sky-high. According to the press release, he took home Song of the Year at the 2025 ACM Awards for “Dirt Cheap,” and his trophy shelf includes accolades from the CMT Music Awards, CMA Awards, including Album of the Year in 2024 and even a nod as Best New Country Artist at the iHeart Music Awards in 2023. Not bad for a cowboy who started out chasing rodeo dreams before breaking into the country music big leagues.

While the RODEOHOUSTON Super Series wraps up the day before on Saturday, March 21, the fun is far from over. Fans heading to Johnson’s big show on Sunday can still enjoy all the Rodeo grounds have to offer, including the Carnival (presented by First Community), the Champion Wine Garden (presented by Frost), AGVENTURE (presented by Oxy), and a bustling shopping and dining experience inside NRG Center.

Tickets for Cody Johnson’s concert-only event go on sale to the public on Thursday, August 21, with more information available soon at RODEOHOUSTON.com.

And while the full 2026 entertainer lineup is still under wraps, one thing’s for sure: with Cody Johnson leading the charge, RODEOHOUSTON is saddling up for a legendary season.
