Country music’s next powerhouse just notched another career-defining milestone. Alabama-born artist Ella Langley is celebrating her second No. 1 on country radio and her first-ever solo chart-topper, as “weren’t for the wind” takes the top spot this week on Mediabase Country. The deeply personal track marks a major moment for Langley, solidifying her as a leading voice in the genre’s new wave.

Langley first hit No. 1 last year with the viral duet “you look like you love me” alongside Riley Green. But this latest win hits different, "weren’t for the wind” is a solo triumph, and one that Langley co-wrote herself alongside longtime friend and collaborator Joybeth Taylor, and songwriter Johnny Clawson. The track was produced by Will Bundy.

Taking to social media to share the news, Langley beamed with gratitude.

“Weren’t for the wind is #1 on country radio baby!!!!! So proud of this song, everything that it’s done and continues to do,” she wrote. “Thank y’all for loving this song. Also, thank you to @joybethtaylor and @johnnyclawsonmusic for helping me write it… So grateful today. God is good 🤍”

But the heart of the celebration came in an emotional tribute to her co-writer and friend Joybeth Taylor. The two have been dreaming of this moment since the earliest days of their careers, starting with a song written on Langley’s back porch.

“There’s no telling how many hours me and @joybethtaylor have put into having this moment together,” Langley shared in a touching post. “Since that day on my back porch (the day we wrote our first song) we’ve dreamt about getting a #1 together. Sure, there have been many days that it seemed pretty much impossible, but we always believed.”

“weren’t for the wind” has resonated with fans for its raw vulnerability and authentic storytelling, two qualities that continue to define Langley’s rise. From viral collaborations to solo success, her ascent is rooted in both grit and heart.

As she returns to Nashville with a chart-topping single and tears in her eyes, it’s clear this is more than just a career win. It’s the payoff of belief, hard work, and sisterhood, and the wind is only just beginning to blow in Ella Langley’s favor.
