“Lose My Cool” is a testament to Watkins' ability to capture raw emotion and transform it into a compelling musical experience. The song delves into the relatable struggle of trying to keep composure in the face of overwhelming feelings, whether it's love, heartbreak, or frustration. With its catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics, the track showcases Watkins' undeniable talent and growth as an artist.

Watkins has been steadily building a loyal fanbase, thanks in part to her dedication to honest songwriting and her ability to connect with listeners on a deep level. Her unique blend of traditional and modern country influences allows her to stand out in an ever-evolving industry.

In a recent interview, Watkins shared insights into the inspiration behind “Lose My Cool”, explaining that the song was born from a moment of vulnerability and self-reflection. "We all have those moments where we want to keep it together, but sometimes emotions just take over," she said. "This song is about embracing those feelings instead of fighting them."

Lauren Watkins is stepping into the next phase of her career with confidence and charisma. Yet in our conversation, Watkins exuded a mix of excitement and nerves as she geared up for the song's release.

“When you put it like that, yeah, it is nerve-wracking,” she admitted when asked about the finality of the release process. “I wrote the song about a year and a half ago, so it’s existed in my world for a long time. Now that it’s finally about to be out, there’s no turning back. But really, it’s just mainly excitement. I’m ready.”

Watkins’ debut album established her as a serious artist with a raw, unfiltered take on country music. However, with more eyes on her this time around, she acknowledges that there’s a different level of anticipation.

“I didn’t feel nervous for my debut record because I felt like no one was paying attention yet,” she shared. “Now, more people are watching, and I want them to like it.”

That vulnerability is woven into her music, but what makes Lose My Cool special is the way it captures a lighter, more carefree energy. Written during a songwriting retreat in Kansas with a powerhouse team—Will Bundy (her husband), Rodney Clawson, and Nicolle Galyon—the song was born out of an effortless creative flow.

“We always joke that it’s like couples therapy when we write together,” Watkins laughed. “We had no agenda, just wanted to have fun and write a few songs. But even if Lose My Cool was the only song that came out of it, the trip would have been worth it.”

Another notable aspect of this new era is its distinct visual identity. For the cover art, Watkins ventured far from her Nashville roots, opting for the expansive desert landscapes of Arizona. The choice was intentional—she wanted to mark this phase as something different, something fresh.

“I wanted a change of scenery,” she explained. “All my previous visuals were tied to Nashville or Oxford, Mississippi, where I went to college. But for this, I wanted to really signal that something new was coming. The desert’s colors—the blue sky, the greenery, the red dirt—just felt right. And that fun yellow color? It just screams happiness, sunshine, and the feel-good energy of Lose My Cool.”

For Watkins, visuals are just as important as the music itself. Inspired by artists like Kacey Musgraves, who often associates her albums with distinct color palettes, Watkins has embraced a similar approach.

“I think of albums as colors,” she said. “I want people to associate this era with that pretty butter yellow. It just feels like what the music is.”

Beyond aesthetics and excitement, “Lose My Cool” is also a glimpse into what’s coming next. Watkins, now in a new phase of life—married, more seasoned, and creatively fearless—feels like she’s stepping into her own.

“It’s just the natural progression of life,” she reflected. “I still love a good sad heartbreak song, and there’s plenty of that coming. But I’ve also had new experiences, new joys, and I want my music to reflect that.”

So what’s next? If “Lose My Cool” is any indication, Watkins is on the verge of something big. With more music in the pipeline and a growing fanbase eager for what’s to come, 2025 is shaping up to be her most defining year yet.

And if this is just the beginning of the new era, then buckle up—Lauren Watkins is just getting started.
