Garrison Nunn Finds His Footing in 'Feather in the Wind'

For most artists, a debut album is a statement. For Garrison Nunn, Feather in the Wind feels more like a confession, a musical journal tracing the blurred lines between faith, identity, and ambition. Written over the past four years, the album captures a young man caught between two worlds: the fluorescent lights of pharmacy school and the dim glow of a Nashville stage.

“I wrote this album over the past 3-4 years while trying to figure out where I fit in the world. I was in pharmacy school working towards my doctorate, trying to build a music career, and wrestling with faith and self-worth. I felt like a feather in the wind – drifting from milestone to milestone, being over-nostalgic about the past, never really grounded in the present. The album is a snapshot of my life over the past 4 years.”

That image, a feather floating through the currents of life becomes the heartbeat of the project. The phrase itself, he says, emerged in his song “49ers,” and suddenly everything clicked.

“There’s a line in ‘49ers’ where I use the phrase ‘feather in the wind,’ and that was the moment it all clicked. It summed up everything I was feeling – the uncertainty, the searching, the quiet acceptance that maybe drifting is just part of the process. And that’s where the album stemmed from.”

Across ten tracks, Feather in the Wind feels both intimate and expansive. One moment, Nunn is belting out arena-ready vocals; the next, he’s whispering truths over the soft hum of a guitar. There’s no clear genre box to check here — and that’s exactly the point.

It’s a bold statement for a newcomer, but one that makes perfect sense after a listen. Each track feels like a reflection of the tug-of-war between doubt and discovery, the kind of storytelling that invites listeners into the mess rather than painting over it.

What stands out most about Feather in the Wind isn’t just its musical diversity or lyrical depth, it’s the emotional honesty. This isn’t an artist trying to prove he belongs; it’s one trying to understand who he’s become.

“This record doesn’t represent who I am anymore, it represents the man I had to become. It’s proof that I made it through. My younger self would be proud of me for that.”

And that’s what makes Feather in the Wind such a striking debut, it’s not about arrival, but endurance. It’s about the slow, unsteady grace of finding your place in a world that never stops shifting. Garrison Nunn may have felt like a feather in the wind, but with this album, he’s found something close to steady ground.
