Kameron Marlowe: The Voice Country Music Desperately CravesIntroduction: A Heartfelt Conversation
Country music has always been at its best when it wears its heart on its sleeve. Few modern artists embody that raw emotional honesty quite like Kameron Marlowe. With the release of Sad Songs for the Soul, his latest album, Marlowe cements himself as the voice the genre desperately craves—a voice full of grit, longing, and deep, soulful storytelling.

All Country News recently had the chance to sit down with Marlowe and chat about his new project, his songwriting process, and what it was like to work with some of the most revered names in country music. Our conversation was a blend of excitement, reflection, and admiration for the craft.
A Dream Collaboration: Vince Gill on “How’s The Leaving Going”
One of the most anticipated collaborations on Sad Songs for the Soul is Marlowe’s work with legendary singer, musician and producer Vince Gill. When I asked him about it, he laughed, almost in disbelief. When asked how it was working with the icon Kameron was nothing but honest.
"Terrifying," Marlowe admitted. "He's like one of the most talented singers, guitar players, producers—his mind is out of this world. It’s definitely intimidating going into a room with him. But once you get to meet him and get to know him, he's the kindest, sweetest guy in the world. He wasn’t pushy at all in the writing room. He let me have my ideas just as much as Lee did, and I feel like we really came together to write this song, which is a beautiful, beautiful thing."
Marlowe’s admiration for Gill is evident. The collaborative energy in the studio between them and Lee created a song that blends vintage storytelling with modern production—a signature of the entire album.
“I actually didn’t know it was going to happen,” he said. “I was at a writing retreat for a different publishing company, and Vince was there. He decided he wanted to write with me. It was very awesome that he did. It just kind of worked out and fell into place.”
It’s a testament to Marlowe’s talent that someone of Gill’s caliber jumped at the chance to write with him. The result? A song that perfectly blends both of their styles, creating something uniquely heartbreaking yet timeless.
A Solo Moment: “Highway Song”
Despite being known for his collaborations, Marlowe does have one completely solo-written track on the album: Highway Song. He explained that this track was where the entire concept for the record began.
“I wrote that song for like two months,” he shared. “I wanted to put myself in somebody else's shoes. The song is about a guy who is just really, really down on his luck. The bottle has completely taken over his life. The woman of his dreams left him. Where does he go from here?”
That deep dive into character-driven songwriting became the foundation for Sad Songs for the Soul.
Marlowe’s cover of Burning House is one of the album’s standout moments. He recalled how he rediscovered the song while driving and couldn’t shake its power.
“I think I listened to it like two or three times back to back and just kept restarting it. And I was like, ‘Golly, this is some of the best songwriting,’” he said. “I hope I did it justice to Cam’s version because I did not want to mess this up.” Based on the reception so far, he absolutely did it justice.
Best Song Wins: The Art of Outside Cuts
Marlowe also took a strong stance on outside cuts—songs written by others but recorded by him.
“For me, I have to feel like I've lived it. There are so many incredible songs sitting in catalogs in this town that need to be heard. As a songwriter and as someone who believes in how songs can really change people, I will never shy away from an outside cut. The best song should always win.”
It’s a refreshing take in a world where many artists insist on only recording their own work. Marlowe, however, prioritizes the emotion and impact over personal credit.
The Hollow Sound of Sadness
When describing the overall sonic landscape of the album, Marlowe used one word: hollow.
“It’s empty in the best way,” he said. “We really cut this record in a way that lets the emotion breathe. There’s a lot of space in these songs—space to feel, space to let the pain settle in. That was really important to me.”
A Voice for the Ages
Kameron Marlowe has delivered something truly special with Sad Songs for the Soul. It’s a record full of heartbreak, depth, and raw vulnerability. But more than that, it cements him as a voice the genre desperately craves—one that understands the importance of storytelling, melody, and above all, honesty. If country music thrives on emotion, then Marlowe is here to make sure it never runs dry.
