Lainey Wilson is the first artist to be nominated for nine CMA awards in her first two years of participating at the award show.
Wilson put her small hometown of Baskin, Louisiana on the map when the now country music star first got national recognition for her album, "Saying What I'm Thinking," in 2021. Wilson launched her album, “Bell Bottom Country,” 2022 which skyrocketed her career. Titles from the track include “Watermelon Moonshine,” and “Heart Like a Truck,” Between the two albums, Wilson has had five straight number-one singles in a row that have been released to country radio. The lists consist of “Rolling Stone", "Things A Man Oughta Know,” “Heart Like a Truck,” “Wait in The Truck (with Hardy), and most recently, “Watermelon Moonshine.”
All of her accomplishments–and that being within the past couple of years–has led to not just any type of traction that has paved the way for her to rightfully earn her nine CMA nominations. These nominations consist of, Entertainer of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, and Music Video of the Year." Additionally, Wilson has been nominated twice for Single of the Year and Musical Event of the Year."
"It's my goal to get people's eyebrows raised," Wilson said on the All Country News Country Confidential Podcast back in August of 2021 when it comes to her songs. And that is what she has proven with this year's numerous nominations.
This is Wilson's first time being nominated nine times for awards at the CMA's including the biggest nomination for "Entertainer of the Year. She beats out other front runners for most nominations in country music today including Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs, and Jelly Roll among others. Not only does she have that on her ‘resume’ but she is the first artist to be nominated for “Entertainer of The Year,” since launching her career at the CMA’s.
The key to her success says Wilson is to stay true to yourself.
"You are going to find people who love you," said Wilson in the same podcast episode. The secret behind success she says "is to be unapologetically yourself."
The CMA Awards will air on November 8th on ABC at 8 pm Eastern time on ABC.
