Orville Peck Rises From the Ashes With New Album ‘Mule,’ Fiery New Single and Massive North American Tour

Orville Peck has never been afraid of a little mystery. But on his forthcoming fourth album, Mule, the masked country provocateur is preparing to tell his most revealing story yet.
Arriving September 18 via Warner Records, Mule is billed as a candid, chronological account of addiction, sobriety and a life rebuilt from the ground up. It is not simply a comeback record. It is a document of collapse, survival and the complicated work of becoming yourself again.
For one of music’s most dynamic, theatrical and deeply lovable talents, Mule promises to pull back the curtain without ever sacrificing the grandeur that has made Peck one of country music’s most singular stars.
A Eulogy That Marks a Beginning
The album opens with “Prologue (Eulogy of a Man Turned Mule),” a haunting introduction featuring Emmylou Harris, Noah Cyrus and Allison Russell.
Written and arranged by Peck, the track brings together three generations of
unmistakable female voices to sing what sounds like his own funeral hymn. In the accompanying video, the women appear dressed in black veils and nurse uniforms, harmonizing from an eerie, dreamlike space as though mourning the man Peck used to be.
It is beautifully bleak, but it is not truly an ending.
The eulogy instead serves as the album’s starting line: the symbolic burial of a former self before the long ride toward sobriety, clarity and renewal begins.
“Too Little, Too Late” Finds Peck Dancing Again
If the album’s opening is a funeral, new single “Too Little, Too Late” sounds like the victory lap.
Taken from the redemptive second half of Mule, the rip-roaring track captures the freedom that comes when someone finally feels secure in who they are — especially when an old flame comes crawling back after the healing is already done.
“Ooh, they say good things come to those who wait,” Peck croons before delivering the deliciously dismissive payoff: “Too little, too late.”
Produced by Jay Joyce and written by Peck alongside Dan Wilson and Steve Rusch, the song turns emotional closure into a full-bodied country celebration. It is bold, playful and gloriously unsentimental, the sound of a man who has stopped waiting for someone else to recognize his worth.
The Man Turned Mule Tour Hits the Road
Fresh off his Grand Ole Opry debut, Peck is also taking this new chapter across North America on the newly announced Man Turned Mule Tour.
Following a headlining performance at the Hollywood Bowl, the Live Nation-promoted run will begin October 28 in Sacramento and conclude November 22 in Huntington, New York. Nashville singer-songwriter Abbie Callahan will join Peck throughout the North American dates beginning October 28.
The tour will also carry a larger purpose. One dollar from every North American ticket sold will benefit The Trevor Project and its work providing crisis intervention and suicide-prevention services for LGBTQ+ young people.
VIP packages will include early entry, premium tickets, exclusive merchandise and a pre-show experience featuring a soundcheck viewing and Q&A with Peck.
Artist presale begins Tuesday, July 28 at 10 a.m. local time, with the public on-sale opening Friday, July 31 at 10 a.m. local time.
Orville Peck Is No Longer Running From the Story
There is something fitting about Orville Peck naming this album Mule.
A mule carries weight. It endures rough terrain. It keeps moving when the road becomes steep, lonely or unforgiving.
For years, Peck’s mask has allowed him to build one of modern country music’s most compelling personas. On Mule, he appears ready to use that same mythology to tell a painfully human story.
