Remy Garrison’s “Body Count” Has Other Plans for Girls’ Night
Her new country-R&B single turns a familiar night-out setup into a playful declaration of independence.
There’s a familiar assumption tucked into the girls’ night anthem: get dressed up, go out, and someone’s bound to mistake the effort for an invitation. Remy Garrison’s “Body Count” takes that idea and gives it a knowing smile.
Arriving October 23, the single centers on a woman who’s out to enjoy herself, not audition for anyone’s attention. Garrison wrote it with Amy Peters and Nash Overstreet, shaping the song around a premise that feels both playful and pointed. The cheekiness gets the first laugh, but the confidence underneath is what gives the idea its staying power.
That perspective feels right for Garrison, whose songwriting is known for its wit and irreverence. “Body Count” lets her have fun with a familiar country music setup while nudging it in a different direction. The woman at the center of this night out isn’t waiting to be chosen or flattered. She already knows why she came, and it isn’t for him.
The single also signals a deliberate step into Garrison’s next musical chapter. A country-R&B artist, she sought out Overstreet, formerly of Hot Chelle Rae and the son of Country Music Hall of Famer Paul Overstreet to help bring her country roots together with the smooth phrasing and vocal traditions of R&B. That collaboration gives the track a clear purpose: to make the blend feel less like a genre experiment and more like an honest reflection of who Garrison is as an artist.
“Body Count” works because the attitude isn’t just a punchline. Garrison takes a familiar girls’ night scenario and shifts the focus back to the woman living it. She can dress up, go out, and have a good time without making herself available to anyone else. It’s a small but satisfying flip and one that leaves the night entirely in her hands.
