Sheryl Crow Says Meeting the Pope Was “Very, Very Popey” During Hilarious BobbyCast Story

Sheryl Crow recently stopped by The BobbyCast, and while the conversation covered everything from music to life experiences, one story completely stole the show, her unforgettable meeting with the Pope.

And leave it to Crow to turn a once-in-a-lifetime moment into something both heartfelt and hilarious.

While talking with Bobby Bones, Crow reflected on attending a massive annual fundraiser connected to an organization that works closely with the Vatican. Naturally, Bones had to ask the obvious question: what’s it actually like meeting the Pope?

“When you see him, is that a pretty cool moment?” Bones asked.

“It is,” Crow admitted. “I mean, you know, I guess as an American, you think you're going to be like, ‘Hey, how about the White Sox?’ You know, and you're going to be high-fiving and all that stuff.”

The visual alone is enough to make fans laugh, Sheryl Crow casually chatting sports with the Pope like they’re backstage at a concert. But according to Crow, the real experience was much more reserved and deeply moving.

“And he is very, very reserved,” she explained. “Like, we didn’t really know what to expect.”

Crow went on to share that during their interaction, she told him how meaningful it was to see him continue spreading messages of compassion, unity, and faith during such a tense time in America.

“I just said, you know, how much it meant to me that he was really spreading the teachings of Christ,” Crow recalled. “And I said, it really matters to me, especially now with what’s happening in our country.”

The Pope’s response was short, simple, and incredibly fitting.

“He was holding my hand,” Crow said. “He said, ‘Yes, we all have to work together.’”

And in true Sheryl Crow fashion, she couldn’t resist adding one perfectly timed punchline.

“And I was like, okay, that’s very Popey,” she laughed. “Very, very Popey.”

The story instantly became one of those classic BobbyCast moments fans love — equal parts funny, genuine, and unexpectedly emotional. Crow’s ability to balance humor with sincerity is a huge part of why fans have connected with her for decades, both as an artist and as a personality.

Even after years of sold-out tours, GRAMMY wins, and iconic hits like “Soak Up The Sun,” “If It Makes You Happy,” and “All I Wanna Do,” Crow still comes across as refreshingly grounded. Instead of turning the moment into some larger-than-life celebrity encounter, she told the story the same way anyone might describe meeting someone they deeply admire, nervous, curious, a little awkward, and ultimately inspired.

The appearance also reminded listeners why The BobbyCast continues to deliver some of the most entertaining conversations in country music and beyond. Bones has a way of getting artists comfortable enough to tell the stories fans actually want to hear, the unscripted moments that feel real.

And honestly, now we can’t stop imagining an alternate universe where Sheryl Crow and the Pope are swapping baseball takes and throwing high-fives over the White Sox.
